The Golden Rule Of Content Marketing

Internet Marketing No Comments

Go to any blog worth their weight in the SEO or Internet Marketing arena you’re bound to hear a reoccurring theme-content marketing is the real deal. And it is.

Have you ever heard the saying “it’s not about how much money you make, it’s about how much you keep?” The golden rule of content marketing is pretty similar. It’s not about how much content you make, it’s how you share it.

You can have the most insightful content relative to your field on the internet, but if people are unaware it exists, you’re no different than the millions of other websites trapped in the graveyards of cyberspace with no means of visibility (or survive-ability). Here are 4 ways to keep the ‘Golden Rule’ of content marketing shining bright

1. Platforms Are Paramount

Social media platforms are a great way to stay connected with current customers and attract new ones. When someone becomes a client/customer they should automatically be directed to your Facebook or Twitter. Using Social media to project content marketing is about creating awareness. Awareness of your brand. Awareness for content associated with your company. That’s it. It’s not rocket science nor does it need to be. Automate your content so when it sends, an automatic message is posted saying so.

2. Despite What Many Think, Content is Far From Free

You hear it all the time. “You should blog because it’s free.” Or, “you should really take advantage of Facebook and Twitter because they’re free.” Well, i guess it all depends on what your definition of “FREE” is. Yes. Monetarily, it is free. But is your time? Building a strong following or promoting your content surely takes time, patience, and sometimes even a little luck. The first two are far from free. Even the third only happens after you’ve exhausted the first two. Creating the content is only half the equation. The other half is investing the time it takes to gain traction in your niche.

3. Don’t Overkill the Message

There is one commonality in blog marketing all of us must adhere to: don’t overkill the message. You don’t need to overly promote every piece of content that derives from the genius mind that is YOU. You have to pick and choose. Every once in a while it’s okay to take time to politely ask your network to read a post you’re especially proud of or you feel is beneficial to them. But if you go out of your way NAGGING your audience to read EVERY post you write than you’re no different than that person who NEVER SHUTS UP when they call so we never pick up (“GUILTY as charged your Honor” Come on! Don’t act like I’m the only one!! We ALL know the type and you feeling guilty makes me feel better so you oughta be ashamed too :-) . You work hard to write unique content so don’t force it on others or you’ll end up labeled as “that person.”

4. People Are Only Interested in How It Helps Them

Before everything, this matters most. Whether you’re blogging about financial planning or web design, your content must be created from an insider’s perspective that outsiders can use for their own benefit. Period. People are generally only interested in how it benefits them. The biggest mistake you can make is to begin speaking in terms only someone else in your industry can understand. Kill the technical jargon. Speak in a language anyone can relate to. And do it for the sake of benefiting your audience, not you. Give them a unique perspective and they’ll come back for more and even better, bring others with them. Stay uncomfortable my friends and keep fighting the good fight. Have a great weekend!
