Mirroring Energy With Energy

Website Design No Comments

Remember how excited you were when you made the decision to start your own business?

Think way back. Before hitting that inevitable first wall came to fruition. Even before the first customer was landed. Remember the overwhelming sense of accomplishment you felt just knowing you were on your way to greener pastures because you made a decision? You decided right then and there building your own dreams was better than building someone else’s.

A great feeling it was (and still is). In honor of that unforgettable emotion, let’s take a close look at one of the most profound lessons you and I will ever learn about building a successful company from the ground up.

Mirroring energy with energy

The 5 things I’ve learned about mirroring the energy of customers

On-Your-Mark-Get Set-”GO!”

1. When pitching a potential client, match their tone with a similar tone of your own

Watch their body language. Mirror it. No need to shout from the mountain tops during a presentation if the client seems more reserved. It will only make them (not too mention you) feel awkward.

“Why in the hell is this person so excited? Did I miss something? Maybe their trying to over compensate because they suck.” (Be careful of being more excited to land the business than the client is to give it)

2. “For every one step you take I’ll take two”

Don’t over deliver for someone until they commit. ”I don’t want to meet. Heres what I want, email me a quote.”

Sound familiar? If they don’t want to meet in person or set up a call to spend more than 2 minutes discussing their needs; why should you? “For every one step you take I’ll take two” is a great approach when trying to earn new business. It eliminates dealing with the half steppers of the world.

3. ALWAYS LISTEN MORE and TALK LESS

Listen. Listen. Listen. So long as you let them do the talking you’ll always know exactly what their expectations are and how to meet them. Did I mention LISTEN? :-)

4. Choose Who You Want to Work With

It takes a while to get to this level because at the beginning you can’t afford to turn down business because every little bit counts. But as you become more successful, you should set criteria for whom you choose to bring on as clients. This way you go where you know you’re not only appreciated, but valued.

5. If You Find Yourself Convincing Someone, Chances Are You’re Talking to The Wrong Person

There comes a point when you shouldn’t have to convince a potential client of the value of your services. Of course there is nothing wrong with having questions but if every question seems like it’s taking on a negative (or skeptical) undertone, keep it moving because they’re not worth the energy. Amateurs convince, professionals sort.

We’ve All Been There

If I had a quarter for every time I violated one of these rules, Premier Pixels Las Vegas SEO and Web Design group would be a public company on the NYSE. Don’t beat yourself up because the only way to grow is to fall flat on your ass.

Mirroring enerygy with energy not only takes experience, but also the ability to identify the energy necessary for that particular situation. The good news is practice makes perfect. As your business grows, so to will your ability to pick up on what the situation calls for. Eventually you’ll have it down ice cold where you don’t even realize you’re doing it. That’s when you’ve officially become a Jedi. :-)

There is something to be said for relaxed intensity because it sharpens the senses. As your business grows, so to does your confidence. It’s a slow process but once it takes hold it’s a presence that can no longer be denied. Mirror the energy and watch how your business shines as a result. Thanks and have a great day.
