Will The Real Google Please Stand Up?
It’s no secret Google shook up the SEO world when they added the newest component of their algorithm-Google Panda. Many SMBs (small to medium businesses) who rely heavily on SEO to grow their business have seen a major change in their website rankings with Google Panda likely being the cause. Websites have taken major hits in their organic rankings without any logical explanation as to why.
Can The Real Google Please Stand Up?
The widespread frustration is continuing to mount against Google because companies aren’t getting answers as to how to begin putting the pieces back together. Even prominent seo companies are a tad confused because there are no clear cause or parameters to go by. All they know is they got caught in the eye of the storm. But what kind of storm? How do you defend against the ‘winds of change’ when you don’t know where the wind is? Will the real Google please stand up and provide more information in webmaster tools?
- Can’t they automate a system to give specific indicators as to why search rankings have dropped?
- I mean they are Google. They control the landscape. They are the damn landscape.
- Why can’t they give us even a few specifics related to Google Panda and what to look for in Webmaster Tools? Is that too much to ask?
- Is it too much to assume Google could create a 1 through 10 rating system in webmaster tools with specific criteria in mind?
- For example a system that rates meta descriptions? Or a program that rates Inbound Link quality or Outbound Link quality?
- Or what about a program that rates content quality? They keep saying it’s all about improving the user experience through rewarding high quality content thus determining ‘authority’ from one site to another.
- Why not give us the tools to help them enhance the user experience instead of keeping us in the dark?
- Is there such thing as leveling off the playing field too much? Is that what they’re fearful of?
- Are we asking the wrong questions?
If Google Is Bending the Rules..
Don’t take this the wrong way, I am a long standing “Google Groupie.” You would’ve thought I found a stack of hundreds when they unrolled Google Plus (it’s long overdue). It’s a definite game changer. The problem is Google has become infallible at disturbing the peace and not admitting when they drop the ball. They don’t feel as though they have anyone to answer to, and in reality they don’t. Of course any company in their position is entitled to make decisions to grow, evolve and ultimately stay ahead of the game. I get that. What I don’t get is their unwillingness to buck the system whenever they see fit, then turn around and expect us not to do the same damn thing. Is that unreasonable? Am I wrong for feeling as though I may need to find loopholes in order to stay ahead of my competition? This is survival of the fittest. Right?
Has the quest for search engine dominance become more of a ‘kill or be killed” mentality? Or am I blowing things out of proportion? Guess only time will tell. Stay uncomfortable my friends and thanks for stopping by.
